New York State Police say mother intentionally swam over Niagara Falls with two children

NIAGARA FALLS, NEW YORK — According to New York State Police, a 33-year-old mother climbed over a safety rail and intentionally swam over Niagara Falls with her two children, a 9-year-old and a 5-month-old. efforts were unsuccessful.

Authorities responded to the park around 9 p.m. Monday and determined the family had stepped over the railing on Luna Island, a small island between American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls, which, along with Horseshoe Falls, are a popular tourist destination.

“The investigation determined that this incident was intentional, although the circumstances are still being investigated,” the state police said in a press release.

Authorities are using unmanned aerial vehicles and underwater vehicles in the investigation.
