Derek Carr ‘not a savior’ for Saints, just trying to be ‘a big leader’ after expected return against Panthers

Derek Carr ‘not a savior’ for Saints, just trying to be ‘a big leader’ after expected return against Panthers

The hope is that the return of QB1, combined with facing a one-win Panthers team, will be the cure for what ails the Saints.

Carr just isn’t going to make any announcements about the season, even if he’s set to make a splash.

Carr and the Saints crushed the Panthers in Week 1, scoring three touchdowns in a 47-10 victory. With the win, Carr improved to 5-0 in his career against Carolina, with two wins against the Raiders and three against the Saints.

As both teams have ridden the wrestling bus down a winding road this season, Carr and the Panthers quarterback Bryce Young will once again start opposite each other in a somewhat startling turn of events. Carr missed three games with the injury as a rookie Spencer Rutler started in his place while Young sat on the bench, but is now back in the starting lineup Andy Dalton fell with a thumb injury.

Once 2-0 dear, the season is slipping away from the Saints if it hasn’t already.

Carr hopes to change the fortunes of his team, but does not promise anything new.

“I’m going to come in and do what my guys expect me to do: bring energy, bring effort, like I said, be a great teammate,” he said. “Encourage our guys, talk everyone out, nail down the details, hold each other accountable. What do we have for the nine weeks we’re promised, right? Or 10. Whatever week it is. There is only complete dedication from myself to our boys.”

Carr practiced for the first time Wednesday since leaving the Chiefs game. It was listed as limited, but promises to be in full swing.

“When I come back, I’m going to be a psychopath,” he said. “I’m going to go crazy with the details and everything because we only get one shot at this. So, I don’t have any promises or anything except that I promise a lot of effort and I promise long nights and early mornings to get it done. I am sure that we are on top.”
