Plantersville man leads authorities on high-speed chase, crashes in Cypress

PLANTERSVILLE, Texas (KBTX) – A high-speed chase ended in flames Tuesday afternoon in Cypress, with the arrest of a Plantersville man.

A Grimes County deputy attempted to pull over a driver with expired registration at CR 304 and SH 249 in Plantersville around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) said in a news release. But the driver refused to get out of the car and instead began a high-speed chase.

GCSO said the suspect drove at speeds in excess of 100 mph, passing others in restricted areas, and eventually reached 120 mph.

The driver continued to lead deputies into Harris County, where they pulled over two vehicles.

Two state troopers finally got the driver to stop by using a “pit maneuver.” This is when military vehicles turn aside, trying to stop the driver. The chase came to a halt at the intersection of Luetta and Telge roads in Cypress.

When the driver finally exited the vehicle through the passenger side door, he fled and was eventually apprehended. GCSO said the suspect continued to resist arrest.

Authorities identified the driver as James Harvey of Plantersville. He was booked into the Grimes County Jail on an evading a motor vehicle charge.

GCSO said its deputies were assisted during the pursuit by the following agencies: Todd Mission Police Department, Harris County Sheriff’s Office K9 units, Harris Co. 4th Constable’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
