BURKE BURNETT (KFDX/KJTL) — People are slowly being allowed back into their homes after a 431-acre wildfire west of Burkburnett prompted authorities to declare a code red and prompt several evacuations.

The fire started shortly after 1.30pm on Wednesday 30 October. At one point, firefighters believed the fire was under control when winds picked up, causing it to spread north.

The Texas A&M Forest Service Incident Review shows the Clara fire has spread to more than 400 acres and is 50 percent contained.

Wichita Falls Fire Department, West Wichita Volunteer Fire Department, Burkburnett Fire Department, Sheppard Air Force Base Fire Department, Freeberg-Cooper Volunteer Fire Department and Texas A&M Forest Service responded to the fire.

Wichita County Sheriff David Duke said he believes the fire was caused by an arcing of power lines at a nearby oil field.

There were no reports of damage to buildings or injuries to residents or firefighters.
