MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MARYLAND (DC News Now) – It was a scary and crazy sight Wednesday morning when a car flew off the roof of a garage in Chevy Chase.

In a publish on X, Pete Piringer of Montgomery County Fire-Rescue said crews were called to a garage in the 5400 block of Wisconsin Avenue after a car fell from the fifth floor.

Montgomery County police said a woman was trying to park her car in an upstairs garage when she accidentally stepped on the gas pedal.

Police have identified the man who was shot in Hyattsville

The car broke through the protective gate and flew into the street upside down.

“I just got ready to start my day and I just saw my co-worker and he told me to come real quick,” said Johnny Lopez, who works in the building next to the garage. “He said he heard a loud bang and said, ‘Let’s check it out.’

Lopez’s office window overlooks the upper deck.

“We saw that the gate was broken,” he said, “so we thought it was just a gate, but then when we went down, we saw a car and a woman who was in the car. She was just there and people tried to comfort her. Luckily, it didn’t look like she had any scratches or anything like that. She looked perfectly normal. I mean, I’m sure she’s probably going to feel a little bit of pain, you know, that adrenaline must have kicked in and she didn’t feel anything.”

The woman in the car ended up in the hospital with minor injuries, which Lopez finds unbelievable.

“It could have been worse,” he said. “You know, the way the car landed and all that. It could have been much worse.”

The car fell near the entrance to the monthly parking lot of the garage. It was closed for several hours, but then reopened.
