A man was arrested in Rohnert Park after an unregistered firearm was found, police said

Officers with the Santa Rosa Police Department served a search warrant Friday night at a Rohnert Park residence as part of an ongoing investigation into illegal gun possession, authorities said.

A Rohnert Park man was arrested Friday night after a search warrant issued by the Santa Rosa Police Department led to the discovery of three unregistered weapons, the department announced in a news release Friday night.

Shortly before 10 p.m., officers with the Law Enforcement Task Force served a search warrant at a home in the 1400 block of Gold Way in Rohnert Park as part of an ongoing investigation into illegal gun possession, officials said.

During the search, officers found an unregistered and serialized short-barreled assault rifle, a 9 mm handgun and a .45 caliber handgun — both of which were also unregistered, police said.

Officers arrested the suspect, who they identified as Ciprián Velasco-Sierra, 29, of Rohnert Park.

Velasco-Sierra was booked into the Sonoma County Adult Detention Facility and charged with felony and misdemeanor possession of an assault weapon, possession of a short-barreled rifle and possession of a non-production firearm, the release said.

“The Santa Rosa Police Task Force was created to combat the increase in illegal firearm possession and gun violence in the city of Santa Rosa,” the statement said.
