A woman who allegedly stole a large amount of merchandise from the Sterling Heights Kohl’s on Schoenherr Road on Tuesday was taken into custody after a short foot chase that ended in Fraser.

According to Sterling Heights Police Capt. Mario Bastianelli, officers were dispatched to the store at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Oct. 29 in response to a report of retail fraud. The police officers waited until the suspect left the store and got into her car, which was parked in the parking lot.

When police tried to detain the suspect as she was getting into the car, she allegedly hit the gas pedal and fled.

“She actually pulled the officer over with her car,” Bastianelli said.
