Light snow with sleet possible later Saturday

AND fast movement clipper will move across the state today, bringing light snow. The little snow arriving later today and continuing through the night and into Saturday. A few areas in northern Minnesota could see 3 to 5 inches of snow, while most will get 1 to 3 inches.

What we know:

Today, light snow will leave the Dakotas and slowly move into Minnesota, starting from west to east.

Light snow is possible before sunset. Light snow will continue to fall Saturday night and into the early hours of Sunday before this clipper moves east.

Winds will pick up significantly on Sunday, making travel more difficult, especially in open areas where the wind can blow and dump the light snow we’re picking up.

The metro is expected to get about 1 to 2 inches of snow, but not too far north, regions will likely get 2 to 4 inches, with some isolated areas potentially getting a little more.

A strong northwesterly wind on Sunday will bring in some fairly bitter air, which will lead to cooler temperatures on Sunday.

Temperatures start in the mid-20s Sunday morning and will likely drop into the lower and mid-teens by the end of the day. Wind chills could drop below freezing by sundown Sunday.

We start the working week on a bitter note.

Temperatures only peak in the mid single digits on Monday and possibly Tuesday before we climb out of the cold pool.

The weather for the work week looks calm in terms of precipitation, with little or no snow expected.

The forecast calls for plenty of sunshine mid-week with temperatures gradually rising for the second half of the work week.

Highs may even reach near or above zero on Thursday and Friday.
