Kerala: Case against BJP leader PC George for ‘hate speech’ against Muslim community – Kerala News

A case has been registered against Kerala BJP leader PC Gorge for allegedly making hate speech against the Muslim community during a TV debate earlier this week.

Kerala’s Kottayam district police have initiated action against a BJP leader following a complaint filed by the Muslim Youth League’s municipal committee. The complaint alleges that George made condescending remarks about Muslims during the televised debate.

In his controversial statement, George reportedly said, “I am sitting in Erathuppet and I am saying this. Out of a population of 40,000, 38,600 are Muslim. Nowhere in this world are there such public forces without a conscience as you have. Do you have a conscience Do you have a soft approach to people from other religious groups? If you are a Muslim, you have become one. You don’t want India, you want Pakistan.”

These words caused widespread criticism, which forced George to apologize on social networks. In a Facebook post, he wrote: “I unreservedly retract my reply that all Muslims in India are terrorists and I apologize to all my Muslim brothers and sisters who love this country who have been affected by it. But I clearly know that there is a small percentage of people among them who have anti-national extremist views, I will always strongly oppose them and those who silently support them.

Meanwhile, senior BJP leader and Kerala state chief Prakash Javadekar accused the CPM-led Kerala government of a “political vendetta” against George.

“FIR against PC George is a political vendetta by the LDF government which does not say a word against Hamas…” Javadekar wrote on his ‘X’.

“The UDF is also guilty of appeasing extremist politics. PC George has already clarified that his intention was to express opposition to extremism and not to target any community. Kerala is strongly opposed to extremism,” he added.

A case was registered after the statements of the applicants were recorded and further investigation is underway, a police official said.
