The search for a missing British tourist resumes in the Dolomites

The search for a second British mountaineer missing in the Dolomites for 10 days has resumed, Italian authorities have confirmed.

Aziz Ziriat, 36, and Samuel Harris, 35, of London, have not been heard from since January 1. The alarm was raised after the couple failed to check-in for their flight home on January 6.

On Wednesday, rescue teams announced they had found a body, “sadly lifeless, buried under the snow”, believed to be that of Mr Harris.

At first light on Saturday, more than 80 members of Alpine Rescue, Guardia di Finanza Rescue, the Carabinieri and the local fire brigade resumed the search.

In a statement on Friday, Italian rescue services said a search for where Mr Harris’ body was likely to have been found had failed to locate Mr Ziriata.

Dense fog forced the search operation to stop on Friday afternoon.

Harris was found on Wednesday under the snow at the foot of a cliff on the Carre Alto mountain near Trento.

The cause of his death is unknown, but the authorities called one of the possible reasons for the fall “from above”.
