Dickinson man pleads guilty in dog poisoning case

DICKINSON, N.C. (CFUR) – A Dickinson man has pleaded guilty to two counts of animal cruelty.

Police arrested James Sowell, 61, in May after receiving reports from a veterinary clinic that two dogs had been poisoned in Dickinson. After the investigation, the police established that Savel added rat poison to the meat and fed it to two of his neighbors’ dogs. Both dogs suffered from convulsions; one died.

Sawvel will serve 90 days in the Southwest Multi-County Correctional Center, followed by three years of probation.
