Maryland Weather: More snow is expected Friday night

BALTIMORE — After a cool morning, the region will be sunny this afternoon, but temperatures will remain low. Maximum temperatures for the rest of the day will reach below 30 degrees across the region. A gusty northwesterly wind will make it feel even colder, and the wind chill will remain in the tweens throughout the day.

Skies will be mostly clear tonight, and lows will drop into the mid- and upper-teens and low 20s. Wind chills will drop back into the low-teens and possibly into the upper single digits by Friday morning.

On Friday, a mostly cloudy sky is expected with a high temperature of up to mid-30 degrees. A storm approaching from the south and west will bring a chance of snow to the area by Friday night. Snow accumulation looks light at this time, with about 1 inch expected across much of Baltimore. However, areas along the lower East Coast and Southern Maryland could see accumulations of 2 to 3 inches.

The heaviest snowfall is expected in southern Maryland, especially in places like St. Mary’s County and further south areas like Somerset and Worcester counties. The storm’s main track is expected to pass through eastern North Carolina, with southern Virginia likely to see the heaviest snowfall. Travelers heading in this direction should anticipate some serious roadway bumps.

Locally, you can expect a bit of slippery road conditions until Saturday morning. Sunshine will return late Saturday morning and persist through the afternoon, with highs reaching the mid-30s. Saturday night will be cold again, the temperature will reach 20 degrees.

A high temperature of around 40 degrees is expected on Sunday. Monday looks set to be the warmest day of the next seven days with highs in the 40s. However, another arctic front will approach the region by the middle of next week, with highs in the low 30s on Tuesday and dropping into the low 20s on Wednesday.

Cold temperatures will drop back down to moderate levels Tuesday and Wednesday night, and wind chills will likely drop into the single digits Wednesday and Thursday morning. Next Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be watch days due to dangerously low morning wind chills.

By the end of next week, the temperature will gradually warm up.
