Body found in San Tan Valley, believed to be kidnapped woman; an arrested relative

SAN TAN VALLEY, AZ (AZ Family) — The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office says a woman’s body was discovered in a San Tan Valley farm field Wednesday morning, and deputies say a teenage relative is the prime suspect.

Details are limited, but the sheriff’s office says a jogger called 911 after seeing the body west of Gantzel Road and south of Skyline Drive around 9 a.m. Less than 10 minutes later, emergency dispatchers received a call about a robbery in a house on Vineyard Plains Drive.

Deputies responded and determined that the body was connected to a kidnapping that had occurred within the same hour. The identity of the victim has not yet been established.

Authorities say the main suspect is an 18-year-old man who is a relative of the home where the abduction took place. His name has not yet been released.

Deputies said he was found with self-inflicted injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital. He will be booked into the Pinal County Jail while he is treated for his injuries.

No other information has been released, but authorities say both incidents are active at this time as investigators work to determine what led to the woman’s death and determine a possible motive.
