Police in Rivers have arrested three police officers for allegedly extorting drivers

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested three female inspectors for allegedly extorting motorists in Rumuokoro, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

It was gathered that Sarah Anendei, Caroline Promise and Christiana Jatau were apprehended at the Rumuokoro Flyover on Tuesday where they operated an unauthorized checkpoint.

This was announced on Wednesday by the spokesperson of the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko.

Grace said the command had been monitoring the women following reports of their activities.

The statement read: “The Rivers State Police Command arrested three of its officers following a coordinated monitoring patrol by operatives of the Commissioner of Police Group, CP Monitoring Division on October 29, 2024.

“An operation carried out under the Rumuokoro flyover around 3:00pm led to the arrest of Inspector Sarah Anendei, Inspector Caroline Promise and Inspector Christiana Jatau who were caught in corrupt practices against innocent motorists under the flyover.

“Two officers, Inspectors Caroline Promise and Christiana Jatau, were found to have engaged in such unprofessional conduct while not in uniform, further breaching police standards. Their misbehavior was captured on cell phone video, providing clear evidence of their actions.

“During immediate investigation at the scene, the operatives searched the officers and recovered the money recovered from the motorists, which shows the quick response to uphold ethical practices in the Rivers State Police Command.”
