A sergeant was investigating a ShotSpotter call and a homicide in southeast Fresno Saturday night when authorities say 40-year-old Andy Morales shot the sergeant multiple times.

Morales was killed in a shootout with a sergeant and two other officers.

Police later discovered that Morales had used the same gun to kill his longtime friend earlier that night.

The department thanked the community for supporting both the sergeant and the department as a whole.
