A 10-year-old girl eloped with a 16-year-old boy in Gujarat after they met each other on Instagram. However, a few hours after the girl’s family filed a complaint, they were caught by the police from a nearby village. Both were sent to a juvenile home.

On December 31, a 10-year-old girl, a 5th grade student, disappeared from her house in the village of Dansura. After hours of searching, her family eventually filed a police report, claiming that the girl had been abducted.

During the investigation, the police established that the minors communicated on Instagram and fell in love. On December 31, they hatched an escape plan and escaped with the help of three of their friends.

It is interesting that the girl’s father does not know anything about social networks. The law enforcement officers established that a 10-year-old girl used Instagram from her mother’s phone, and it was there that she contacted a boy who lived in another village. They often talked on the phone.

After filing a complaint, the police searched for the girl and handed her over to her family. Police said a case was registered after the girl’s family lodged a complaint.

Another similar case happened last year in Madhya Pradesh, when a 15-year-old girl eloped with a 27-year-old man she met on social media and fell in love with. The duo also threatened the parents if the wedding was not arranged.

A recent study in Madhya Pradesh found that nearly four out of 10 teenage girls who leave home without informing their parents do so because of family problems.
