Al Jazeera regrets the decision of the Palestinian Authority to close its office in the West Bank

DOHA: The Al Jazeera media network has condemned the Palestinian Authority’s decision to freeze its work and coverage in the West Bank, saying the decision is just an attempt to stop the channel from covering the rapidly escalating events in the occupied territories.

The decision follows an ongoing campaign of incitement and intimidation against Al Jazeera journalists and correspondents by parties affiliated with the Palestinian Authority.

The decision to freeze the work of Al Jazeera and prevent its journalists from carrying out their duties is an attempt to hide the truth about the events in the occupied territories, especially what is happening in Jenin and its camps. And unfortunately, this decision is in line with previous actions by the Israeli government, which closed Al Jazeera’s office in Ramallah.

Al Jazeera is shocked by the decision, which comes at a time when the war in the Gaza Strip is still ongoing and Israeli occupation forces are systematically attacking and killing Palestinian journalists.

The Al Jazeera media network holds the Palestinian Authority fully responsible for the safety of all its employees in the West Bank. Al Jazeera also calls on the Palestinian Authority to immediately withdraw and reverse the decision taken by the relevant ministries and allow it and its teams to freely cover events from the West Bank without any threats or intimidation.

Al Jazeera emphasizes that this decision will not deter it from its commitment to continue its professional coverage of events and developments in the West Bank.
