Minister Pheu Thai denies being iCon Group’s “guardian angel”.

Minister Pheu Thai denies being iCon Group’s “guardian angel”.

At the time, she said, she chaired the House Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, and Prasert was her deputy. She said a Chon Buri resident filed a complaint with the House Consumer Protection Committee on January 20, 2023, and the complaint was referred to her committee for consideration.

The complainant said he paid 200,000 baht to iCon Group to purchase toothpaste for sale, but did not receive the product as agreed and wanted a refund.

In response to the complaint, she said, her panel subpoenaed officials from the Consumer Protection Council, as well as executives from the iCon Group.

At the time, she announced that, thanks to the mediation of her subcommittee, the complainant had been refunded and had withdrawn the complaint.

Manaporn also said she did not know any iCon Group executives and that PPRP was in power at the time the complaint was filed and had decided not to take any legal action against the company.

She explained that House committees have no legal authority and can only conduct investigations.

On Tuesday, Pia also said that Yuranunt “Sam” Pamornmontri, one of the 18 iCon Group executives arrested, was a member of the Pheu Thai party.

However, Manaporn said Yuranunt left the party in 2014.
Prasert, meanwhile, supported Manaporn’s claims, saying they worked with integrity and honesty as members of the House commission.
