Brave domestic abuse survivor opens up about the brutal abuse she suffered in new Netflix documentary – Netflix

A victim of domestic violence has explained why he decided to speak out about his wife’s horrific treatment as a documentary about his story was released on Netflix.

Richard Spencer was physically, emotionally and financially abused by his wife Sheri for a decade and his suffering was only revealed after a friend saw the footage abuse on the babysitter’s camera and forwarded it to police.

Richard shared his experience of filming a heartbreaking documentary My wife, my abuserwhich is now added to Netflix months after the original broadcasting on channel 5.

By the time the police were involved, Richard had gathered evidence of his abusive relationship and injurieswhich included 43 photos, 36 video clips and 9 mobile recordings. Sheri was eventually sentenced to four years in prison for the abuse, with Judge Kate Rayfield describing the case as “the worst case of control and coercive behavior (she has ever seen”).

After Sheri’s arrest, Richard decided to make the bold decision to share her story with public to raise awareness of domestic violence against men. Richard went on to explain how the abuse happened, explaining that Sheri started by “pushing, shoving and slapping” him. Richard also explained that he tried to “restrain” her during the attack, but added that “she’s going to get angry and what comes next is going to be ten times worse.”

This led to him starting to keep the footage written down on the nanny’s cameras at home as “insurance” so Sheri doesn’t block access to her children.

Eventually, Richard told a friend about his ordeal, who reported Sheri to the police. She was eventually charged with controlling and coercive behavior and three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and received four years in prison.
