How Erik ten Hag reacted to being fired as Man Utd head coach when new details emerged

Ten Heg was released from his United duties on Monday.

Erik ten Heg’s first reaction to his sacking as Manchester United manager has been revealed in a new report.

Ten Heg left United on Monday morning after more than two years in the job.

During this time he won Cup of England and the Carabao Cup, as well as support United finished third in his first season under management.

But he has overseen the club’s worst ever start Premier League season since 1989, as well as three consecutive draws in the group stage of the Europa League.

It followed a disappointing seventh-place finish in the league last season when United decided to act after Sunday’s dramatic 2-1 defeat at West Ham.

Assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy will temporarily take charge of the first team, while United are discussing the permanent appointment of Sporting Lisbon head coach Ruben Amorim.

Now a report from The Athletic has revealed how Ten Hag was informed of his sacking – and what his reaction was.

It is claimed that chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Dan Ashworth contacted The Hague to inform him of his sacking, rather than a member of the Glazer family or minority co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

He is said to have received this news and responded as follows:in a dignified manner” before taking a private jet home to the Netherlands on Monday afternoon.

The report adds that Ten Hag has already started preparing for Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup clash against Leicester.

That match will now be officiated by Van Nistelrooy, who also looks set to be in charge of Sunday’s Premier League game against Chelsea and even Thursday’s Europa League game against PAOK.

United have activated Amorim’s release clause but will need to secure international clearance and a work permit for the Portuguese boss before he can take charge of the Premier League.
