List of all 2024 murders in Cumberland County, North Carolina with no arrests

In 2024, local law enforcement agencies investigated significantly fewer murders than last year. Here’s a look at some of the homicide investigations without arrests.

From Jan. 1 to Oct. 29, the Fayetteville Police Department, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Hope Mills Police Department and Spring Lake Police Department investigated 33 homicides, resulting in 35 violent deaths. Nine of these 2,024 investigations have so far resulted in no arrests.

As of Tuesday, the numbers break down as follows:

  • 21 homicide investigation for the Fayetteville Police Department. During the same period in 2023, the agency reported 40 homicide investigations.
  • Nine homicide investigations for the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. During the same period in 2023, the agency reported 16 homicide investigations.
  • Two homicide investigations for the Spring Lake Police Department. For all of 2023, the department reported two homicide investigations.
  • One homicide investigation for the Hope Mills Police Department. For the entire year 2023, the department did not report any murders.

Of the 34 people killed in 2024, 30 victims were men, 23 victims were fatally wounded, and four victims died of stab wounds.

In 2024, there were two homicide investigations in which more than one person was killed. More than one homicide investigation was reported on January 1, September 21, and October 11.

With only two months left in the year, here are the murders in the area that still have no arrests.

Fayetteville Police Department

  • June 7 Sion Gibbs7 years old was killed by a bullet that went through the wall of his house on Danish Drive. Police said more than one person was involved in the shooting and found a potential murder weapon and a vehicle believed to have been used in the drive-by shooting.   • August 20 Anthony DouglasA 34-year-old man was killed after multiple shots were fired in the 200 block of Early Street. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective T. Kiger at 910-705-6527.
  • September 21 Elijah WiandA 25-year-old man was fatally shot at the Anubis hookah bar on Ramsay Street. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective A. Wolford at 910-705-2141.
  • September 21 Ajay WhidbeyAn 18-year-old man was fatally shot in the 700 block of Edgehill Road. Another person received non-life-threatening injuries during the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective T. Kiger at 910-705-6527.
  • October 11 Tyshawn Hines22-year-old, died of multiple gunshot wounds in a shooting in the 900 block of Greenleaf Drive. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective S. Berrios-Rivera at 910-703-6243. Fayetteville/Cumberland County Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information provided to Crimestoppers that leads to an arrest, police said.
  • October 26 Jonathan Eastman37, was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the 2000 block of Cowan Street. He was pronounced dead at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective A. Wolford at 910-705-2141.

Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office

  • January 1 at 7:48 p.m. Christopher Wayne LockamyThe 43-year-old was shot at the corner of Batcave Drive and John B. Carter Road. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. Anyone with information is asked to contact Homicide Sgt. J. Mcleod at 910-677-5548

Spring Lake Police Department

  • March 15 of this year Nahia WimberlyA 40-year-old woman was found dead in her home in the 100 block of Green Street. Patrick Antwon Belk, 33, is wanted for questioning in connection with the murder. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Spring Lake Police Department at 910-436-0350.
  • August 26 Jahari Hurley21, died two days after the shooting at the Plush Sports Bar & Lounge on Spring Avenue. Two more were injured as a result of the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Spring Lake Police Department at 910-436-0350.
