Firefighters tackle fires in Tandragee and Ballymena – The Irish News

Firefighters managed is burning in Co. Antrim and Co. Armaghincluding at an abandoned mill.

Six fire engines were called to the Glebe Hill estate Tandragee after a large fire was reported at the historic Sintons Mill on Tuesday evening.

The building dates back to the 1860s and employed more than 600 people in its heyday, but closed its doors in the 1990s.

The site includes a B2 class mill building, which in 2009 was designated for a large residential a development that failed to materialize. The site was sold in 2014 and put on the market again in 2022.

Roads around the scene were closed Tuesday night as firefighters arrived.

Police advised the residents of the surrounding areas to close their doors and windows while the fire was being extinguished.

Meanwhile, part of Tserkva street in Ballymena remained closed Wednesday morning after an overnight building fire in the area.



A PSNI spokesman said Church Street was closed at the junction with Broadway as emergency services remained at the scene.

“The fire has been extinguished and an update will be provided later,” they added.
