Man hospitalized, two suspects in custody after shooting near Prince George’s County schools

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MARYLAND — Two suspects are in custody and a third is wanted after a shooting outside two schools in Prince George’s County early Tuesday left one man in critical condition.

According to the Prince George’s County Police Department, around 9:40 a.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 7000 block of Allentown Road, near Crossland High School and Thurgood Marshall High School. The area, which includes the Woodberry Plaza shopping center, was the scene of an increased police presence as officers worked to secure the neighborhood.

At the scene, law enforcement officers found a man with a gunshot wound. Emergency medical crews took him to a local hospital, where he is reported to be in serious but stable condition, authorities said.

In the course of the investigation, law enforcement officers detained two suspects involved in the shooting. Police said they are still actively looking for a third person believed to be involved in the incident.

In response to the shooting, Crossland High School and Thurgood Marshall High School were placed on lockdown as a precaution. Police have confirmed that the lockdown has been lifted as the immediate threat to the area has been removed.

The investigation is ongoing as law enforcement officers work to identify a third suspect and a motive for the shooting.
