Toyota Urban SUV concept launch details in India, Maruti eVX based SUV confirmed

Toyota has just confirmed a new battery electric vehicle that will be supplied by Suzuki as part of a global alliance between the two Japanese manufacturers. This upcoming electric SUV has been previewed before The concept of an urban SUVand is essentially the Toyota version Maruti eVX. Toyota also confirmed that production of the new model is planned for Suzuki Motor Gujarat from spring 2025.

Toyota EV based on Maruti eVX: what to expect?

The upcoming model will be the first joint BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) between the two brands and will not only be sold domestically but will also be exported to markets around the world. It will be based on the 27PL electric skateboard architecture, which was jointly developed by Suzuki, Toyota and Daihatsu.

Toyota isn’t releasing many technical details just yet, but has confirmed that it will be available with the option of an all-wheel drive system. Speaking of the eVX, the production version of the urban SUV concept could be offered with two battery options, with the higher-spec variant offering a range of over 400km.

Medium-sized Toyota electric SUV: dimensions, design

During the preview, Toyota revealed that the Urban SUV concept measures 4,300mm in length, 1,820mm in width and 1,620mm in height, which is very similar to the Maruti eVX – the latter has the same length but is 20mm shorter in height and width. . Both models are expected to share the same 2,700 mm wheelbase.

The commonality between the two models will not be limited to the platform or mechanics, but will likely also include exterior body panels and interior trim, just like the existing shared models of both brands. However, Toyota will likely have styling inspired by the bZ series of electric cars. It will have the typical upright silhouette of an SUV with a rugged appeal, sharp surfaces and C-shaped LED lighting elements.

The production version of the urban SUV concept is expected to follow the eVX. The latter will go on sale by the first quarter of 2025, which means Toyota can be expected in mid-2025.
