New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe didn’t know the moment he delivered the key hit in his team’s 11-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 4 of the World Series.

“I didn’t know. I was fighting,” he said on Fox’s postgame show. “I didn’t know I got it, but then I passed out when it went off.”

The 23-year-old gave the Bronx Bombers the lead with a grand slam in the third.

It was a real twist of fate.

In the second inning, Volpe may have continued to run off the board when he failed to correctly read the trajectory of Austin Wells’ double to deep center. At the very least, Volpe could have easily scored and Wells could have even tripled if his teammate hadn’t hesitated so much on the basepaths.

All that was forgotten when the central midfielder cleared the fences.

Volpe finished his performance by helping score another run in the eighth. He stretched one out for a double, stole third, then came home on a fielder’s choice.

Volpe is the toast of New York at the moment. It’s the result of a collection of short stories for someone who grew up in New Jersey rooting for the Yankees.

However, his heroics will mostly be lost to history if New York loses this World Series, which is one of the downsides of playing for this franchise. In general, Yankees players do not become legends of October almost win it all

If the Yankees win their 28th title and pull off the impossible — no team has come back from a 3-0 deficit in the Fall Classic — then Volpe’s grand slam will take on mythical proportions as the moment the offense came back to life. .
