Ole Miss Rebels coach praised Arkansas Razorbacks defensive end Tylen Green

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas Razorbacks quarterback Tylen Green has improved each of the last three weeks through the air. Now he will face the best defense in American football this week with a chance to upset No. 19 Ole Miss.

Rebels coach Lane Kiffin knows his team still has a chance to contend for the College Football Playoff. All hopes could be dashed this week with a loss to unranked Arkansas and the impossibility of doing so contain his dynamic defender.

“We’ve got to do a great job of containing (Tylen Green),” Kiffin said Monday. “That guy is so talented and long, so we have to do everything he tries to do, rush really well, contain them and have a really good plan.” Arkansas offensive coordinator (Bobby) Petrino has done a great job of running the offense for a long time and giving people a lot of problems, like he did with the (Aggies) last year and did a good job against us.

“So, like I said, this is a really well-coached team. They’ve made massive, they’ve made major improvements defensively in Year 1, a year ago with a new defensive staff, and they’re doing a great job.”

Green has been one of the most accurate backs in the SEC over the past three games, completing 72 percent of his passes for 820 yards and six touchdowns and two interceptions. He’s a threat to break out of the pocket on any play, and he’s deceiving based on his size alone as he ranks 2nd in rushing yards by a running back this season.

Saturday’s game against Mississippi State was one of the best of Green’s career as he completed 23 of 29 passes for 314 yards and five touchdowns. His performance earned him SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors, becoming the first Arkansas defensive back since Austin Allen in 2016 to receive the honor.
