She recognized him as a regular and called the police, but by the time they arrived at the Three Elm Lane venue he had already fled in a taxi.

However, officers were called again a short time later when he became aggressive at a Shell garage.

A 30-year-old man entered the station’s shop and began abusing the staff – spitting on the Plexiglas screen and damaging flowers and plants.

When police tried to arrest him, he bit one hand and damaged another’s smartwatch as they tried to take him under control.

He then shouted homophobic slurs at officers as they took him to the police station.

On the way, he spat at the vehicle and officers had to hood him.

O’Toole, of Trench Road, Tonbridge, later admitted five counts of criminal damage, assaulting an ambulance worker and two counts of being drunk and disorderly.

He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on October 22, where prosecutor Debbie Jones told Deputy District Judge Nicola Flack what had happened.

She said: “Officers were present (Shell) and he started calling them devils and then told one he was going to fuck his mother.

“He was arrested and continued to call police officers on the way (to the police station) and then spat on the steering wheel and the back seat.

“When he was brought out, he resisted the officers and during the struggle the officer’s watch fell off his wrist and broke.

“The officers put a hood on him and in the process he bit the officer on the forearm.

“During the interrogation, he could not remember (what he did).

“He has a number of previous convictions and is on a community order.”

The court also heard that O’Toole had stopped drinking.

Andrew Mayne, defending, said: “He has no recollection of the incidents and he is apologetic, he is very remorseful.

“He is registered guardian of his elderly parents and looks after his four-year-old son.

“He doesn’t drink anymore and tomorrow he passes his driving test, everything (for him) is getting better.

“He has been drunk and rowdy since March so his offending appears to be fueled by alcohol.”

Magistrates decided they wanted a pre-sentence report before he was sentenced.

He will return to the same court on December 27 to determine his fate.

Until then, he was taken on bail.
