Karnataka HC grants interim bail to Darshan for six weeks for the operation

The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday, October 30, granted six weeks of interim bail to murder accused actor Darshan on medical grounds.

Justice S Vishwajit Shetty took note of the medical reports that the actor needed surgery on his spine and feet and granted Darshan bail for the surgery, Bar & Bench reported.

The court granted bail on the condition that Darshan surrenders his passport before the court. “I have allowed him to report to a hospital of his choice and within one week he has to provide a medical report and details of how long the procedure will take,” the court said.

Darshan applied for interim bail, stating that he was suffering from severe back pain and was being treated by doctors. His lawyer argued that Darshan needed a spinal surgery as the pain was not subsiding.

“The jail authorities are giving him physiotherapy treatment. But the back pain is not subsiding. The authorities are taking security measures at the Vijayapura Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) to take Darshan for MRI,” his lawyer said.

Earlier on October 14, the 57th CCH court in Bengaluru to Darshan, who has been in jail since June 11 for his involvement in the alleged torture and murder of Renukaswamy. A plea challenging the lower court order is also pending before the Karnataka High Court, Bar & Bench said.

Darshan was initially lodged in the Bengaluru Central Jail before being shifted to Ballari after the jail’s cigarettes and coffee consumption went viral on social media.

Darshan, co-accused Pavitra Gowda and 15 others were arrested on June 11 on charges of abducting and brutally murdering Renukaswamy, who hailed from Chitradurga. Renukaswamy allegedly sent humiliating and obscene messages to Pavitri Gowdy.

On June 9, Renukaswamy was abducted from Chitradurga and taken to Bengaluru, where he was imprisoned in a shed in Pattanager and brutally assaulted, allegedly by Darshan and his accomplices. After killing the victim, his body was dumped in a drain in Sumanahalli. Of these 17 accused, three accused have already posted bail.
