Pine Ridge man pleads guilty to assault of two-month-old baby

RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – Sint White Butterfly, 25, of Pine Ridge, pleaded guilty to assault causing serious bodily injury in federal court Tuesday morning after initially pleading not guilty in September.

The charges relate to incidents that occurred in August. In a statement of facts, White Butterfly said he couldn’t stand it and attacked the baby, who was between one and two months old at the time.

As a result of the attack, the child received numerous injuries, including:

Almost every rib is broken
Fractures of the right and left femur
Fracture of the right tibia
Fracture of the right wrist
Intracranial hemorrhage
Skull fracture on the right side of the skull

White Butterfly can face life imprisonment and a fine of 250 thousand dollars. He will be sentenced on January 6, 2025.
