Collapse of Wilson’s Mills | A car crashed into a Johnston County home after a high-speed chase

SMITHFIELD, N.C. (WTVD) — A chase reached speeds of more than 110 mph in Johnston County Tuesday night.

Wilson’s Mills police said they tried to stop the driver on Highway 70, but he took off and gave chase.

That Nissan, driven by Alan Garcia of Princeton, eventually crashed into a house in Smithfield off Creech Mill Road.

There was no one at home at that time.

“It’s a house, it’s a wall, it’s not a person,” said George Bell, homeowner.

He said that luckily the tenants he lived with there moved out two weeks ago.

“The house was built in 1900 and it’s a really cool house,” Bell said. “But it may have to be lowered now.”

EMS personnel transported the driver to WakeMed for treatment of his injuries. When he gets out, he will be charged with fleeing to elude and reckless driving out of Wilson’s Mills.
