Boys soccer: A look at the 15 postseason teams from BVSD, SVVSD and Broomfield

The boys soccer playoffs are here, featuring 15 teams from Broomfield and the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley School Districts.

Defending champion Broomfield is ranked third in the 5A classification, one spot behind No. 2 Boulder. Fairview is No. 9, Legacy is No. 10 and Erie is No. 22.

Centaur, Silver Creek and Longmont are ranked four through six in 4A. Nivot is #12 and Mead is #31.

Holy Family is ranked No. 1 in 3A, followed by No. 2 Jefferson Academy, No. 3 Peak to Peak Academy and No. 23 Prospect Ridge Academy.

And Dawson is No. 8 in 2A.

The 5A-3A postseason features 32 teams, with first-round games in 5A and 3A beginning Wednesday and opening round 4A on Thursday.

Class 2A begins on Friday and consists of 24 teams. The top eight seeds received first-round byes.

5A class

No. 2 Boulder vs. No. 31 Fountain-Fort Carson

Details: Wednesday, 7 p.m. at Christian Recht Field.

Noticeable: Boulder has been the top-ranked team in 5A for most of the season. Not now. 1 Northfield topped the Panthers last week with a tie and win over No. 5 Denver East last week. Clemson’s Xander Sevian leads the Panthers (14-0-1) with 57 points (18 goals, 21 assists).

No. 3 Broomfield v. No. 30 Castle View

Details: Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. at Elizabeth Kennedy Stadium.

Noticeable: Looking to add to Colorado’s state boys soccer title streak, the defending champion Eagles (12-2-1) can claim the 10th seed with five more wins. Josiah Garron Gillen had a hat trick in the final win over Monarch, making him 11 goals on the year.

Boys Soccer: Late-game heroics lead Broomfield to Legacy finish

No. 9 Fairview vs. No. 24 Grandview

Details: Wednesday, 6:30pm at Fairview Turf Field.

Noticeable: The Knights (8-4-3) have already proven they can play with anyone in the state. Led by 15-goal Ben Ortman, they lost to No. 2 Boulder, No. 4 Cherry Creek, No. 10 Heritage and No. 18 Horizon, all by just a goal . They beat #3 Broomfield last week.

Boys soccer: Fairview’s Mark Litwiler had first career two-goal game to help Knights past Niwot

No. 10 Legacy vs. No. 23 Fort Collins

Details: Wednesday, 6 p.m., at Adams Stadium 12 North.

Noticeable: Seniors Carlos DeLuna-Villalpando and Mason Gray lead the Lightning (9-4-2) with six goals and two assists.

No. 22 Erie vs. No. 11 Liberty

Details: Wednesday, 18:00, at Svoboda.

Noticeable: Erie’s Nathan Bigard scored his team-high 14th goal of the season in a 3-2 win over Monarch last week. The Tigers (8-5-2) then ended their season with a scoreless tie against No. 10 Legacy on Thursday.

4A class

No. 4 Centaur vs. No. 29 Val

Details: Thursday, 3 p.m. at Spangenberg Field.

Noticeable: After reaching the semifinals a year ago, the Warriors (9-3-3) look to make another deep postseason run. They topped the tough 4A/3A Granite Peaks League this fall, which includes four teams in the top 12 in 4A and the top-ranked team in 3A, Holy Family.

No. 5 Silver Creek vs. No. 28 Canon City

Details: Thursday, 5 p.m., at Silver Creek.

Noticeable: The Raptors (9-2-3) have yet to lose to a 4A team this season, with their only losses coming to 5A #3 Broomfield and #10 Legacy. They have not scored a goal in their last three games, including a win over #6 Longmont and a scoreless draw against #4 Centaurus.

Boys soccer: Centaurs and Silver Creek finished the regular season tied, with the league title up in the air.

No. 6 Longmont vs. No. 27 Summit

Details: Thursday, 4 p.m. at Everly-Montgomery Field.

Noticeable: The Trojans (10-2-3), who already have won their most games in a season since 2015, got 14 goals and seven assists from rookie Noah Chavarria this fall.

Boys soccer: Longmont remains undefeated as it manages to defeat Niwot

No. 12 Niwot vs. No. 21 Wheat Ridge

Details: Thursday, 6:30 p.m., at Niwot.

Noticeable: Senior Jay Scharf has scored multiple points in each of his last two games, recording a goal and three assists. He has three goals and six assists this season.

No. 31 Mead vs. No. 2 Battle Mountain

Details: Thursday, 4:00 p.m., on Battle Mountain.

Noticeable: The Mavericks (6-6-3) snapped a four-game skid with a 2-1 win over Frederick in the regular season finale. They will face the defending 4A champions in Round 1.

3A class

No. 1 Holy Family vs. No. 32 Weld Central

Details: Wednesday, 5:00 p.m., in the Holy Family.

Noticeable: Senior Oliver Hansen scored his 10th goal of the season as the Tigers (11-2-2) tied 4A No. 6 Longmont in the final game of the regular season.

Boys soccer: Kaden Riedel, Silver Creek suffers second loss to Holy Family

No. 2 Jefferson Academy vs. No. 31 Pueblo Central

Details: Wednesday, 6:00 pm at Jefferson Academy.

Noticeable: Matt Kessell returned as coach after a year away from the men’s team, and the Jaguars (11-3-1) went from undefeated in 2023 to a No. 2 seed this fall.

#3 Peak to Peak vs. #30 Lamar

Details: Wednesday, 5 p.m., at Peak to Peak

Noticeable: Micah Tengwall introduced himself on the state football scene with a goal that sent Peek Tu Peek into the 2022 championship. He leads the Pumas (8-2-4) with 12 goals and three assists this fall.

Boys soccer: Peak to Peak settles for tie in Metro League battle against Denver Christian

#23 Prospect Ridge Academy vs. #10 Timnath

Details: Wednesday, 6:00 p.m., at Timnath HS

Noticeable: The Miners play in the 3A/2A Metro League, which features 3A No. 2 JA and No. 3 Peak to Peak as well as the top two seeds in 2A. Freshman Austin Huffman has seven goals this season as PRA (5-8-2) looks for its first win in six games.

2A class

No. 8 Dawson has a first-round bye

Noticeable: The Mustangs (11-2-1), led by state leader in goals (45) and points (102), Charlie Martin, had a 24-team bye. They will host the winner of No. 9 Fountain Valley and No. 24 Grand Valley on Saturday.
