Jameson Williams charged with carrying concealed weapon in car – News 9 & 10

WAYNE COUNTY. Two weeks into the two-match suspension he is currently serving, Jameson Williams narrowly avoided arrest after a gun was found in his car.

A warrant was filed late last week and Williams is charged with carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, WXYZ Detroit reports.

Williams and his brother were pulled over for speeding on Oct. 8, and police said there were two guns in the car, one registered to each of them, but Jameson did not have a concealed handgun license.

Williams could be heard on body camera footage telling the office he got the gun for his own protection and telling officers he was playing for the Lions.

A Detroit police officer told Williams he would be taken into custody, but he would later be released after a sergeant arrived and made a series of phone calls, and body camera video shows the sergeant’s phone with the Lions on the wallpaper.

Detroit police officials say they acted appropriately and stand by their actions.

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office is still reviewing the warrant request.
