Lifeguards in Harwich rescued a child from a hole on the beach on Monday, authorities said.

Harwich Fire Department said on Facebook that they responded to Brooks Road Beach on Monday evening. There, firefighters said, they found the child sitting in a hole three feet wide and three feet deep, buried up to chest level.

Firefighters began “carefully” to dig out the child, the post says. Emergency workers brought in a containment pipe to keep the child safe while they continued to dig.

Firefighters, along with Harwich police officers, dug the child out in 15 minutes, the report said. No casualties have been reported.

Harwich Beach norms and rules stipulate that a child under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. According to the document, violators face arrest and a fine of up to $50. It is unclear if the child was being watched when she was in the hole.
