Three face multiple drug and firearms charges after MHPS arrest

Medicine Hat police made three arrests over the weekend. Police say they responded to a residence on Anson Avenue SW to assist a short-term rental owner with evicting a delinquent tenant. Upon arrival, officers located and arrested three individuals at the residence – Chase Hare, Brooklyn Carrier and Nathan Canfield, the latter of whom was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for being unlawfully at large from federal colonies. During the search, the police found two loaded firearms, ammunition, cocaine and evidence of drug trafficking. Canfield, 39, was charged with: – nine counts of possessing a firearm contrary to a restraining order; – two facts of unreliable storage of firearms; – two facts of unauthorized possession of firearms; – Two counts of possession of a firearm, if possession is unauthorized; – Possession of a firearm with a distorted serial number; – Possession for the purpose of trafficking in controlled substances and possession of the proceeds of crime. 42-year-old Ger was charged with 16 charges: – five counts of failure to comply with a release order; – four cases of failure to comply with the dismissal order; – three counts of failure to comply with the dismissal order; – two facts of unreliable storage of firearms; – Possession of a firearm with a distorted serial number; – Possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance. 10 charges were brought against the 30-year-old Carrier: – Four counts of possession of a firearm known to be in unauthorized possession; – Two counts of failure to comply with a probation order; – two facts of unreliable storage of firearms; – Possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, – Possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance. All three persons were detained for a court hearing on the issue of temporary release. Canfield was remanded in custody until January 7. Ger was remanded in custody until Dec. 27, while Carrier was released and is due to appear in provincial court in January. More than 1,300 vehicles were checked during weekend roadblocks. MHPS conducted control stops on Friday and Saturday checked 1,309 vehicles in various locations in the city. As a result, six emergency traffic tickets were issued, including one for drink driving. In addition, inspectors issued 11 traffic safety acts and 17 warnings. 28
