“I got $225,000 (£179,550) for directing Deadpool. I know that sounds like a lot of money, but for two years of work, it’s not a ton of money. It’s not that I’m not grateful, I’m terribly grateful, that’s the way it is, because that’s what you have to do when you’re a director for the first time.

“My agent said, ‘Dude, you make more per episode The walking dead!”

While $225,000 sounds like a lot, the news shocked fans when you put it in the context of how much the film and its subsequent sequels have made, which don’t happen without the first one.

The first film grossed over $600 million and the spin-off films grossed $585 million and just over $1 billion.

Fans on Twitter were shocked to learn this.
