Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh filed the complaint urging the ED to initiate an investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in what he called a “cash-for-vote scam”.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) denied the allegations, saying that AAP was trying to distract people from their mistakes.

Addressing a press conference after the complaint was filed at the ED office, Singh said that billions of rupees of unaccounted cash is kept at Verma’s residence, which is allegedly being used to bribe voters. According to him, the same was captured on video.

“A large-scale vote-buying operation is taking place in Delhi right under the noses of key agencies. Voters are being bribed in Arvind Kejriwal’s constituency 1,100.Also, the residence of former BJP MP Parvesh Verma could potentially have seized billions of rupees if the ED had raided it. This is illegal money that is openly distributed to buy votes. Photo and video of reception of women Journalists captured 1,100 with a photo card of the prime minister,” Singh said.

Singh also alleged that Verma and other BJP members had “produced fake and misleading documents to mislead the public in the name of a government scheme”.

Allegations of cash distribution were first flagged by AAP a day ago Wednesdayin which the party said Verma was “openly distributing cash” to voters in the New Delhi assembly segment from his residence at 20, Windsor Place, Lutyens Delhi. Refuting the claims, Verma said the act was to provide cash assistance to destitute women registered with Rashtriya Swabhiman Sansthan, an NGO founded by his father, former Delhi Prime Minister Sahib Singh Verma, 25 years ago.

However, Singh questioned the timing of the relief.

“NGO funds are distributed with a photograph of the Prime Minister. During his 10 years as a deputy, Verma never distributed money to NGOs. Why is it now being distributed before the elections? Crores of rupees of illegal funds they have are used to distribute the cash. This is a direct case of money laundering,” Singh said.

He further criticized the investigative agencies, including the ED and the Central Bureau of Investigation, as well as the Income Tax department, for their alleged inaction against BJP leaders while attacking opposition parties.

Singh added that despite being informed in advance, no officer met the AAP leaders at the ED office. He also said that AAP will also take the complaint to CBI, IT department and Election Commission of India.

Meanwhile, BJP’s Delhi spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapur said Singh was “creating noise around non-issues to divert attention from AAP’s ‘dirty politics'”.

“BJP stands for women empowerment and supports needy women and our governments in most states support women through scholarship schemes. Sanjay Singh’s problem is that his party has been exposed for requiring women to register at their party level for a non-existent government scheme and therefore, like his party colleagues, he is also trying to mislead the women of Delhi,” said Kapoor.
