A woman was arrested after a gun was found in a diaper bag at a daycare

RIVER BEND, N.C. (WITN) – A mother is facing charges after police say she left a diaper bag with a gun inside a daycare.

River Bend Police charged Rhianna Lee with unlawful carrying of a weapon.

Police were called to Excel Creative Early Learning on Pirates Road after staff found a gun in a bag.

An Aurora woman left her two-year-old child at the facility, and police say after she left, staff members found the gun while putting a bag in a holder.

Lee was charged after police consulted with the district attorney’s office.

The kindergarten says the bag was left on the counter in a place inaccessible to children. They say it was discovered an hour after the child’s arrival.

“We understand the concerns of the public, parents and educators about the safety of children,” Principal Shawn Joll said in a statement. “This incident serves as a reminder of the profound responsibility that comes with owning a firearm and the duty of parents to protect our children from reckless actions.”
