BRS leader Srinivas arrested for “obstructing the police”

Former SC/ST Commission Chairman Errolla Srinivas was arrested from his Marredpalli residence by the Masab Tank Police on Thursday in connection with the case of obstructing a Banjara Hills inspector from discharging his duties on December 4.

BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy was also arrested and released on bail in connection with the same case earlier this month. Police raided Mr. Srinivas’s residence around 5 a.m. on Thursday.

Padi Kaushik Reddy and his accomplices were booked by Hyderabad West Zone Police for criminal intimidation, unlawful restraint, public disorder and rioting. The charges were framed after Reddy obstructed the vehicle of the station house officer (SHO) of the Banjara Hills police and threatened him.

According to SM Vijay Kumar, the incident took place around 3 pm when the SHO was leaving the police station for emergency duty. Reddy and his accomplices blocked the officer’s car with another car, demanded that he get out and ignored his explanation of the urgency of their duties. Despite the officer’s request to either submit his complaint to the Deputy Administrator or wait for his return, Reddy’s group continued to obstruct and abuse him.

The SHO eventually got out of the vehicle and took the group to his office to listen to their complaint, but the insults and threats continued, hampering the officer’s duties.

Following the officer’s complaint, a case was registered against Kaushik Reddy and others for unlawful assembly, obstruction of public servants, criminal intimidation and rioting. The police confirmed that an investigation is underway and assured appropriate action.
