The police are investigating why Detroit Lions Jameson Williams was never arrested after he was found with a concealed weapon during a traffic stop. according to a report by WXYZ.

The traffic stop reportedly took place after midnight on Oct. 8, just two weeks before his two-game suspension. a violation of NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Officers pulled over a car driven by Williams’ brother for speeding near Connor and Jefferson avenues in Detroit, police said. Channel 7. At the time of the collision, his brother told police there were two guns in the car — one registered to him and in the back seat, and another registered to Williams that was found under the football player’s seat.

Although Williams’ brother had a concealed handgun license (CPL), Williams himself did not.

Police then told Williams they were going to take him into custody for carrying a concealed weapon. Camera footage showed Williams repeatedly introducing himself, saying, “I play for the Lions, bro,” but the officer maintained that Williams’ status would not affect his decision to arrest him.

After putting on the handcuffs and boarding the patrol car, a supervisor was called to the scene. When the sergeant arrived, he quickly identified Williams and then conducted phone conversations with high-ranking officials.

At first it appeared that Williams would be jailed, but after further deliberations, the sergeant was apparently ordered to release him from custody.

“You are a (expletive) hero. Thank you very much,” the sergeant can be heard speaking on the phone in footage obtained by Channel 7. Williams was released, his gun returned and no police report filed.

According to a report by WXYZ, in light of the incident, the Detroit Police Department has filed a warrant request with the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for Williams, who may now be charged with carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle.

Williams’ attorney said both men were cooperative during the stop and emphasized that the firearms were legally registered, according to the report. The Lions released a statement acknowledging the incident and confirming they are keeping the league informed of how the investigation is unfolding.

“Jameson immediately informed us that he was a passenger on a regular stop on October 8th. We discussed the incident with him and kept the league informed of what we knew,” — Detroit Lions WXYZ said in a statement. “It is our understanding that he was released without incident or citation. We now understand that the Detroit Police Department is reviewing the case. Jameson has retained an attorney and we will not comment further out of respect for the legal process.”
