Hyderabad police report BRS MLA for involvement in intimidation case

Hyderabad, December 25 (IANS): The Hyderabad police on Wednesday issued a notice to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy in connection with a case registered against him earlier this month for threatening a police officer.

The MLA from Huzurabad was ordered to appear before the Masab Tank police on Friday.

The notice came a week after the Telangana High Court ordered the police to return the MLC’s mobile phone, which was forcibly taken from him on December 5.

Judge B. Vijaysen Reddy directed the Station Officer of Police Station Masab Tank to send a notice to Kaushik Reddy as per the arrest procedure.

The BRS MLA claimed in his complaint that a case was registered against him and his mobile was seized only to harass him.

The prosecutor told the court that the cell phone had been sent to a forensics laboratory for examination because the plaintiff was allegedly involved in a conspiracy against the government.

The court was also informed that the applicant and his members behaved undisciplinedly at the police station and prevented the policemen from performing their duties, as a result of which the policemen took away the mobile phone of the applicant.

Kaushik Reddy was arrested on December 5 for threatening an officer of the Banjara Hills police station. He was released on bail the same day.

The case against Kaushik Reddy and his supporters was filed on the complaint of Circle Inspector Raghavendra, who alleged that the MLA had threatened him and tried to prevent him from performing his duties.

The incident took place when the MLA along with around 20 supporters came to the Banjara Hills police station to lodge a complaint that his phone was being tapped. When the MLA came to the precinct, the circle inspector would come out and Kaushik Reddy insisted that he leave only after accepting his complaint. When the police officer told him that he was going on urgent work and would take up the complaint when he returned, the MLA flew into a rage.

Kaushik Reddy had a heated argument with the policeman and told him that when an MLA comes to the police station, it is the duty of the SHO to receive him properly. He could be heard threatening the policeman.

Supporters of the UMS stopped the SHO’s car and chanted slogans. The SHO returned and accepted the complaint from the MLA.

The police later registered a case against Kaushik Reddy on the complaint of the SHO. A case was initiated under the article on illegal fees; use of force to prevent the performance of duties of a civil servant; criminal intimidation; unlawful restraint, disorderly conduct and rioting against Kaushik Reddy and others.
