The body was found near the Noyo River in Fort Bragg

A witness reported human remains under the south side of the Noyo Bridge, police said Monday. According to officials, the body was wearing clothes similar to those of the missing teenager.

Fort Bragg police are awaiting confirmation that a body found Monday on the banks of the Noyo River is that of a local teenager who has been missing for more than two weeks.

Officials said the body, which was discovered along a river near the city’s southern edge, was wearing the clothes and jewelry of 15-year-old Roy More.

Roy was last seen the night of Dec. 7 on surveillance footage showing him crossing the Noyo Bridge, according to the Fort Bragg Police Department.

According to officials, an autopsy will confirm the identity of the unidentified body.

“The entire police department is devastated and grieves along with our community,” Police Chief Neil Cerwenka said in a statement. “All of our staff have been working around the clock to find Roy and that’s how we got to know him. Our thoughts are with Roy’s family and friends.”

At approximately 6:00 p.m., on December 7th, Roy left the area of Whipple and Oak streets to join friends in a light truck parade at Fort Bragg about a half mile to the north.

He was last seen wearing a blue sweater and a blue shirt with white lettering.

Roy’s parents reported him missing the next day.

Police found city surveillance footage showing the teenager walking south along the east side of the Noyo Bridge at approximately 7:50 p.m. on December 7.

It is about a mile south of Whipple and Oak. Police said there was no video footage of vehicles or other people on the bridge at the time.

About two hours after Roy appeared on camera, a passerby found the phone on the bridge and held it until he saw a missing person’s card that had a picture of Roy and his phone.

A passerby handed the phone to employees at Mendocino Cookie Co., 301 N. Main St., on Dec. 17 in an attempt to contact police.

“He was extremely cooperative by consenting to a search of his vehicle, property and person, and allowed officers to take his phone so that all of his location data could be verified,” police said earlier on December 19.

Police learned that Roy’s phone was turned off shortly before 7:00 p.m. on December 7 and briefly turned on again at approximately 2:00 a.m. on December 8.

Fort Bragg police regularly posted updates on the investigation as new information came in.

The latest incident occurred at approximately 8:15 a.m. Monday, when a passerby found the body on the riverbank under the south side of the Noyo Bridge.

Fort Bragg Fire Department recovered the body with assistance from the US Coast Guard.

Roy’s mother later identified jewelry found on the remains as the same jewelry her son was wearing the night he disappeared, police said.

“Until the medical examiner makes a positive DNA identification, (police) will continue to follow up on Roy Mora. Based on all the evidence available to date, there are no signs of foul play,” police said on Monday.
