A resident of the town of Wall pleaded guilty to car theft

TOMS RIVER, NJ – Jakel Akkoo, 29, of Wall Township, pleaded guilty to vehicle theft and tampering with a witness. This request was made in the presence of Judge David M. Fritsch, JSC, regarding the Toms River incident in October 2023. At sentencing on January 3, 2025, the state will recommend a five-year sentence for each count to be served concurrently in a New Jersey state prison.

A subject reported his vehicle stolen on October 14, 2023, to Toms River Police Headquarters. The investigation revealed that Accoo did not return the loaned car and sold it to an individual in Georgia. This led to a charge of theft against Accoo on November 22, 2023.

A warrant was issued for Akkoo’s arrest and he was entered into the National Crime Information Center database. The New York/New Jersey Marshals Service Regional Fugitive Task Force along with the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Akkoo in Red Bank on January 22, 2024. He was released under New Jersey’s bail reform.
