1. Historical bicycle tours of Sleeping Bear (Maple City) – during August

Experience the historic beauty of Michigan when you take Sleeping Bear Historic Bike Tour. The trail isn’t too difficult at 5.5 miles, so it’s worth the effort to see the cultural landscape of Sleeping Bear Dunes along the Heritage Trail and Port Oneida’s scenic country roads. This particular tour will stop at seven interesting locations, including places with epic views of Lake Michigan, as well as historic farm buildings.

2. Explore Oscoda, the O’Sable River, and the Huron National Forest

Are you looking for a gem of a relaxing vacation? Then Oscoda could be perfect for you. You can rent canoes, kayaks, tubes and paddle boats for adventures on the AuSable River. You can also explore Lake Huron and the trails in the Huron National Forest. Be prepared for incredible views and beaches with sugar sand! This is one of our favorite things to do in Michigan this summer.

3. Experience a vintage car (Coldwater)

On vintage Capri Drive-Inyou’ll be transported back in time as you watch the double features unfold on the big screen. You can watch from your car or spread out your blankets and camping chairs to enjoy the show – all while eating whatever you get from their concession stand!

4. Lansing JazzFest (Lansing) – July 31 – August 3

Love jazz (or just a good music festival)? Then you should definitely check it out Lansing JazzFest. The festival offers hours of live jazz on three different stages, as well as clinics, workshops and children’s activities. This is a free event that we think is worth attending. Michigan’s August festivals offer so many fun ways to enjoy the state!

5. Suds on the Shore (Ludington) – August 19

He not only has a good name, but also Suds on the Shore Craft Beer and Wine Festival has been working for seven years! In 2024, the event will be held on August 17th at Lake Michigan City Park in downtown Ludington. If you love craft beer, hard cider, and local Michigan wine, then you’ll be a happy participant in this event that raises funds for the United Way of Mason County.

6. Rollin’ on the River (Allegan) – Fridays until August 30

Nothing says summer like a weekend full of live music! you can find Rollin’ on the River on the Alleghany Waterfront as a free weekly Friday night concert series. Touring musicians from around the country will grace the Allegan Riverfront Stage and this is a family event you won’t want to miss.

7. Skip’s European Farmers Market (New Buffalo) – Saturdays and Sundays throughout August

Through mid-October, this incredible farmers market offers vegetables, fruits, jellies, jams, salsas, breads, and more! Of course, our beautiful state has tons of farmers markets during the summer, but if you’re looking for a farmers market that has a TON of deals (and some pretty unique ones), then you should make a trip to Skip’s!

8. Woodward Dream Cruise (Detroit) – August 17

Even if you’re not into luxury cars, you’ll love it Woodward Dream Cruisethe world’s largest one-day motoring event. This Car City Classic Car Parade takes place on Woodward Avenue in the Detroit area, so stop by if you want to see vintage and muscle cars cared for by some of the most passionate people in the industry.

9. Michigan Renaissance Festival (Holly) – August 17 – September 29

During the city, Holly transforms into “Hollygrove”. Michigan Renaissance Festivalrenaissance fair and interactive outdoor event that the whole family will enjoy. Even if you’ve never been to a “ren faire” before, it’s worth a visit. You will feel as if you have traveled back in time to the 16th century! This is one of our favorite summer festivals in Michigan.
