In Harvinton, a man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol

HARVINTON, Conn. (WFSB) – A man has been charged with driving under the influence after state police say they caught him speeding on Highway 8 in Harvinton.

They identified the driver as Carlson Osterling, 21, of Torrington.

The officer was parked in the median of the highway on Monday just before 10 p.m

State police said the trooper observed a Buick sedan traveling at speeds well in excess of the 65 mph posted speed limit.

The police officer recorded the speed of the driver at 96 miles per hour, pulled onto the highway and went to catch up.

The driver stopped and a police officer made contact.

State police identified the driver as Osterling.

The operatives reported that there was an odor of alcohol coming from the interior of the car. In addition, state police said Osterling had an open container of alcohol on hand.

A standardized field sobriety test was administered, which state police said the driver failed.

Osterling was arrested and charged with reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and driving under the influence.

He was released from custody on $1,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Torrington Superior Court on Nov. 12.
