Suspect pleads guilty to damaging MLK Jr. statue in Denver City Park and theft

One of the suspects in theft of bronze works of art at the statue of Dr. Martin Luther King in the city park pleaded guilty. Robert Duran pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct on October 25.

Duran received a deferred sentence and was ordered to pay $69,900 in restitution.

The A monument to MLK Jr. in a city park was vandalized on February 21. Several bronze objects were missing from the statue, including a tablet weighing at least 200 pounds and a pair of torches.

Repair and replacement work began immediately items stolen from Denver’s I Have a Dream monument to Dr. Martin Luther King in City Park. Artist Ed Dwight CBS News Colorado confirmed earlier this month that the statue had been restored to its original state.

A second suspect, Herman Duran, is scheduled to appear in Denver District Court on Nov. 7, according to court documents.
