Trees were planted to offset emissions from Fleet and Mobility Live visitors

Vehicle emissions from visitors to this year’s Fleet and Mobility Live were offset by Lightfoot in collaboration with Fleet news.

Almost 50 trees will be planted to offset around 35,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions generated by the travel of over 2,100 delegates.

Visitors to Live fleet and mobilitywhich took place at the NEC from October 8-9, were asked to provide details of how they traveled to and from the show and the distance they traveled.

This information allowed Lightfoot analyze the carbon footprint of travel by electric, petrol and diesel vehicles, as well as trains and calculate the total emissions for visitors.

The data provided showed that 29% traveled in petrol cars, 19% each in trains, diesel and fully electric vehicles and 14% in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).

In total, visitor travel emitted approximately 34,506 kg of CO2.

Using the Lightfoot Sustainability Project, created in partnership with carbon offset company Evertreen, these 49 trees, each offsetting around 700kg, will be planted in Kimon, Madagascar.

“We create this type of analysis, reporting and benchmarking for many of our fleet customers, so it seemed a natural fit to partner with Fleet and Mobility Live, who have such a strong focus on decarbonisation, to make exhibition attendance as sustainable as possible,” said the managing director Lightfoot director Paul Hollick.

“We are very grateful to all those visitors who filled in their travel data to allow us to model the total emissions of everyone who attended.”

Live fleet and mobilitywhich organizes Fleet newsis the UK’s leading annual event for the vehicle and mobility community.

Keynote speakers offered expert advice and shared best practices for a safe and compliant fleet of cars and vans in a packed schedule of panel discussions and presentations across three main theater areas.

The free two-day event, sponsored by Octopus Electroverse for Business, also gave delegates the opportunity to meet a host of leading suppliers and network with colleagues.

The highlights of the show were many and included the auditions Abdul Chowdhury, Head of Transport Policy, Office For Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) on the Government’s decarbonisation roadmap and the implications for car, van and truck fleets.

The visitors also heard the words of the leaders of the leading leasing companies in Great Britain participating in an open forum for fleet decision makers discussing future trends, current challenges and new initiatives.

Chris Lester, Events Director at Fleet and Mobility Live, said: “We’re always looking for ways to ensure our events are as green as possible, so we’re delighted to be working with Lightfoot to offset our visitors’ emissions.

“This is one of the many elements that helped make this year’s Fleet and Mobility Live a huge success.”
