Two teenagers, a 14-year-old and a 13-year-old, are currently on trial for their involvement in the October 17, 2023, beating to death of 64-year-old Reggie Brown.

The teenagers’ lawyers will have the opportunity to present witnesses.

It’s been a year since Brown was found dead in an alley in the 6200 block of Georgia Avenue Northwest last October. CCTV footage and videos on social networks discovered during the investigation showed that a group of girls aged 12 to 15 were involved in the crime.

At the trial, one of the first convicts testified that the girls wanted to go out and find someone to beat up because they were bored.

During the jam-packed week of the trial, the court repeatedly played the video of the murder. The homicide detective in this case testified that it was passed on by the caretaker of one of the girls.

The video shows the girls repeatedly smashing Brown’s head against the ground as he bleeds. It also shows moments of them smiling as he “oozes out” and one of the already convicted teenagers testified that this meant bleeding. The video showed them laughing at Brown, then jumping back and cheering as he lay down in the alley.

One teenager involved in the fatal attack has pleaded not guilty to murder and assault with a dangerous weapon. She was sentenced to three years in prison.
