A total of five states are continuing to clean up and rebuild after the devastation caused by Hurricane Helen in late September. Many members of the NASCAR community went above and beyond to help communities affected by the storm. On Tuesday, Team Penske announced a joint program with Shell USA and The Joey Logano Foundation that will support ongoing recovery efforts.

This latest program follows an earlier donation from Logano and his foundation, which provided $250,000 to support recovery efforts in the weeks after Helen left. Logano also visited Western Carolina, bringing supplies to help residents clean up.

The new initiative, which will be highlighted by a special paint scheme on Logano’s No. 22 Dark Horse Ford Mustang during Sunday’s Xfinity 500 race at Martinsville Speedway, will be called “Partners to Help Hurricane Recovery.”

During the final two weeks of the NASCAR Cup Series season, as Logano and Team Penske continue to compete for the NASCAR Cup Series championship, fans and industry partners are encouraged to make monetary donations through a dedicated landing page on JoeyLogano.com to the initiative. All donations up to $100,000 will be matched by Shell USA, JLF and PPG, another longtime partner of Team Penske.

“Our team is committed to continuing to support those whose lives have been so dramatically changed by Hurricane Helen,” said Team Penske President Tim Cindrick. “Many of us call North Carolina home, and we want to be there for those who are working so hard to rebuild the basics of their daily lives. We are proud to partner with Shell USA and the Joey Logano Foundation on this initiative as we continue to strive to raise awareness of this ongoing need.”

According to a press release, these proceeds will directly benefit four charities that align with JLF’s mission to support children and youth through difficult times in their lives.

“Every time something happens this close to home, it’s a little bit different,” Logano noted. “We’re going to invest in these communities and now so many people are ready to help – it’s incredible to see so much support. We want to help where it matters most and plan long-term, not just for now, but for the months and years ahead. How can we support the families that will still be there? The Joey Logano Foundation has remained true to its long-term vision of helping those in need, and we are extremely grateful for the support of partners like Shell and Team Penske who have helped bring this program to life over the past few weeks.”

The four charities that will benefit from the donations are Crossnore Communities for Children, Speedway Children’s Charities Bristol (TN) Chapter, Least of These and Children’s Hope Alliance.

Logano and JLF kicked off the initiative by donating a Ford Explorer to Crossnor’s Children’s Communities on Tuesday morning. The donation was given to a charity at the Team Penske race shop. The charity will use an SUV to transport the children to and from the facility. The charity’s former SUV was among the many items destroyed in the disaster.

The 34-year-old Logano, a two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, has secured a spot in Championship 4 at Phoenix Raceway, where he will compete for his third Bill France Cup with strategic victory in the South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedwayopening race of the 8th round of the playoffs.

The Connecticut native and his No. 22 Team Penske are scheduled to attack Martinsville Speedway on Sunday, Nov. 3 for the Xfinity 500. While the race won’t have any impact on his Championship 4 status, the race will serve as a final tune-up for Logano and crew chief Paul Wolfe before next week’s NASCAR Cup Series championship race.

The Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway will be televised on NBC beginning at 2:00 PM ET. Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio will provide live radio coverage of the event.
