Coronation Street sparks fury as fans make similar complaint about Helen Worth’s decision to leave | TV and radio Show business and television

Coronation Street has sparked fury among its fans after revealing long-awaited plans for Helen Worth to leave her role as Gale Platt.

The star of the soap, which has been on ITV since 1974, will leave the cobbles in an exit that has been described as a “major storyline for the Platt family”.

In July, it was announced that Sean Wilson would reprise his role as Gale’s ex-husband Martin Platt in the exit storyline, but the actor was abruptly fired after his return was announced.

Although Worts’ Christmas Day Out was originally scheduled to premiere at 7pm on ITV, it has now been reported that the episode will be available to stream on ITVX on Christmas morning, hours before it airs.

This angered fans, who called it an “insult” to the actress, who has dedicated a decade to the soap.

Moving on to X, @betbint fumed: “Helen Worth’s latest insult. Gale’s exit was supposed to be a big television event after 50 years on the show. But instead they’re putting it on ITVX in the morning before it’s even aired on TV. No respect.”

@afashionoddity agreed: “Not a single ad where Helen is on This Morning or The One Show – it feels like the whole storyline has been a disservice.”

As @Rafasgirlalways noted: “Since she’s devoted most of her acting career to the show, it’s a shame.”

@NikkiABoleyn fumed: “Corris has gone so low it’s crazy and disrespectful to Helen Worth with such a rushed exit storyline taking Martin out of it and now this. No wonder she’s leaving, she deserves better.”

This comes after an ITV spokesperson confirmed to The Independent: “All episodes will be on ITVX at 7am on the day of the (broadcast)”.

On the eve of the final episode of Worth Coronation StreetGail is about to walk down the aisle for her seventh wedding and plans to leave for a new life in France with her latest husband, Jesse Chadwick (played by John Thomson).

However, in truth Corrie Fashion disaster looms as her son David (Jack P. Shepherd) faces pressure from the Radcliffe brothers to pay back the money he stole from them.

Her eldest son Nick (Ben Price) is accused of cheating by his ex, Lyanna (Jane Danson), as he tries to plan a future with her half-sister Toya (Georgia Taylor).

Elsewhere, Gail’s mother Audrey (Sue Nicholls) has turned down her daughter’s offer to join her in France with Jesse, but as the wedding day approaches, Audrey will go to desperate measures to get Gail to stay. Coronation Street.
