The Pelicans visit the Chase Center in the second game of an NBA doubleheader on TNT, and Action Network’s Andrew Norton previews how the Warriors will fare without Steph Curry. (Published by Action Network)

The New Orleans Pelicans (2-1) will visit the Golden State Warriors (2-1) in the NBA on Tuesday, kicking off at 10pm ET from San Francisco, California. The game is broadcast live on TNT and broadcast on Max.

The Pelicans are a 1.5-point favorite over the Warriors on the schedule (Pelicans -1.5), and the over/under currently stands at 217.5 points. The Pelicans are minus-120 favorites to win, while the Warriors are +116 to win.

Let’s dive into mine Pelicans vs. Warriors predictions. and NBA pick on Tuesday, October 29.

Pelicans vs. Warriors Prediction

My pick: Pelicans -1.5 (-110, DraftKings)

Without Steph Curry, the Dubs will struggle to generate any significant offense. Golden State will have to knock down a lot more 3s than catch-and-shoots because of Curry’s lack of gravitas and playmaking ability.

The Warriors also lack consistent frontcourt play and can’t take advantage of New Orleans’ size (or lack thereof).

Opponents had the third-worst shooting percentage from deep last season against New Orleans, while Golden State remains a 3-point shooting team (second-most 3-point attempts per game).

Ultimately, New Orleans is a bad matchup for the Warriors, especially without Curry.

Pelicans vs Warriors odds

  • Pelicans vs. Spread Warriors: Pelicans -1.5
  • Pelicans vs. Warriors over/under: 217.5 points
  • Pelicans vs. Money Line Warriors: Pelicans -120, Warriors +116
  • Pelicans vs. Warriors best picks: Pelicans -1.5

Spread

Last season, the Warriors went 3-5 in games without Curry (-4.0 net rating), with three wins over San Antonio and Utah (twice).

On the other hand, the Pels were 25-17-1 against the spread as a road team (fourth best) and 21-15-1 ATS after a loss during the 2023-24 campaign.

Money line

If you don’t mind the juice and think taking the Pels right away at -120 makes sense, then their moneyline is a good play.

However, I will back them on a spread that will be much closer to positive money.

More/less

New Orleans had the second-worst record (37-50-1) last season, while Golden State was just under .500 (41-42). That total fell to 217.5 points after opening at 220.5.

The drop in the total amount can be explained by two factors.

The first factor is the unstable attack of New Orleans. The Pelicans have scored just 105 and 103 in their last two games against the monstrous Trail Blazers squad

Also, the Warriors lost Curry to a sprained ankle, so they could struggle against this long, long and versatile Pels defense.

I will take under 217.5.

My choice: Less than 217.5 (play to 216.5)

Pelicans vs. Warriors betting trends worth knowing

NBA Pelicans vs. Warriors preview.

New Orleans Pelicans: The Pels have tons of talent

It took less than one game for injury-riddled New Orleans Pelicanswho were already without rising star Trey Murphy III (hamstring), suffered a significant injury to one of their stars.

Dejounte Murray broke his hand in his first game in a Pels uniform, forcing the team to revert to deploying CJ McCollum at the lead guard spot.

New Orleans then pulled off a hard-fought two-point road win against the Trail Blazers before losing by double digits to Portland 48 hours later.

Still, the Pels will offer plenty of scorers, with McCollum, Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson all available.

Teams with fantastic center play or high scoring teams can trouble New Orleans, but the Dubs don’t fall into that category.

Golden State Warriors: How to deal with Curry’s absence

The Warriors made an impressive start to their 2024-25 campaign, beating Portland and Utah on the road by 36 and 41 points, respectively.

While the Trail Blazers and Jazz undoubtedly will be two of the three or four worst teams in the Western Conference this season, those victories were convincing and easy.

However, in the Dubs’ last game against Los Angeles, Curry injured his shin late in the third quarter and did not return. He will miss at least a few games, including this one.

Golden State lost this game underdogs Clippers by eight points at home. The Warriors were also outscored in the paint by 20 points, allowing Ivica Zubak to post 23 points, 18 rebounds and 6 assists.

Andrew Wiggins and Buddy Guild each had some good games, but the seriousness of Curry’s offense was undoubtedly a big factor in their success.

Now that Curry is out, can the Dubs find a way to create offensive clean looks and stop paint hunter Zion Williamson after allowing Zubac to have a massive night?
